How to Hand Knit a Bed for Pets | Easy Pattern
Learn how to hand knit a soft, warm bed for cats or dogs using chunky yarn.
Materials:
Yarn Size 7 Jumbo
Scissors
Directions:
Make a loop and pull the yarn through to make a knot. Make 2 more chains. You should have 3 chains in total. While holding on to the third chain, go back and pull the yarn through the first chain, you should have 2 loops on your fingers; pull the yarn through both loops. This is a single crochet stitch. Make another single crochet stitch on the first chain like before. Repeat the process until you have a total of 6 single crochet stitches on the first chain. This pattern will start to form a circle. Once you finish the circle, pull yarn through the very first stitch you made and the one on your hand to close the circle.
For the next row, make 2 single crochet stitches on each stitch going around the circle. Make sure to only use the back loops of each stitch. When you finish the row, pull yarn through the first stitch and the remaining loop on your hand to close the circle.
For the next row, make one single crochet stitch on the first stitch (using only back loops), then make 2 single crochet stitches on the 2nd stitch, then again 1 single crochet stitch on the 3rd stitch. Continue the pattern around (2 stitches, 1 stitch, 2 stitches, 1 stitch). Close the circle again as done before.
The next row will be the same as the last row. Make 1 single crochet stitch on the back loop of the first stitch, then 2 single crochet on the 2nd, and so on. Close the circle as before.
To make the walls of the bed, insert your fingers through the whole first stitch (both front & back loops), and make 1 single crochet stitch. Make only 1 single crochet in each stitch for this row. Close the circle as before. Repeat the same process on the next row (1 single crochet on each whole stitch around the bed). This will be the last row for the walls, but you can add more rows to make the walls higher if you wish. Pull the yarn through the first stitch to finish the circle, then clip the yarn. Pull the remaining yarn through the last loop and tighten it to make a knot. Weave the last piece of yarn through some stitches in the bed to hide it.
